Mike Bozonie

Originally from Minneapolis, MN.  I started playing saxophone in 1962 at the end of the 9th grade.  Within a month I added bassoon and played both regularly in high school, playing bassoon in concert band and orchestra and saxophone in the school big and marching band.  I also played in a summer marching band and rehearsed with a big band until the two leads were drafted.  The next 12 years I only played scales about 6 times a year on an old clarinet. A local college, not having a returning bassoonist, loaned me an instrument to play in their orchestra.  About 6  years later I started to play tenor sax again.  I joined a small ensemble that presented a couple of themed programs each year and while there, added alto and bari sax. In 2006, I was able to use a contra bassoon and it became a passion that continues today. I currently retired and live in Maine.  I currently play in several concert bands including the Fanfare Concert Band, a few orchestras, small ensembles and a street band in Portsmouth, NH.  I sing with a couple of groups. I have also added other reeded instruments (Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet) having become a utility wind player.

I have a daughter who plays viola (and briefly bassoon), I have played with my daughter in ensembles about a dozen times.
